Cryptocurrency In Wyoming - Episode 11

Starting in 2018, Wyoming’s legislature passed a host of laws favorable to the blockchain industry, becoming the lead state in the field. This effort was shepherded by Wall Street veteran, Wyoming native and UW graduate Caitlin Long, who I interviewed on this episode. Prepare to learn about blockchain, beefchain, crypto-currency, Decentralized Autonomous Organizations and how all of this relates to Wyoming. Plus you’ll learn about a cryptic snake native to our state, and our Dot on the Map which has about 5000 citizens, none of which actually live there.

Beefchain is one of the most concrete and understandable (in my opinion!) aspects of the blockchain, learn more here. 


Caitlin mentioned the criminals and the scammers, and the importance of really “rolling up sleeves and figuring things out” on your own before entering the field. Below are some resources she recommended as well as others I found useful. 


  • Here is a brief by the Wyoming Business Council summarizing the blockchain “favorable regulations” passed by the Wyoming Legislature.  

  • Crypto Island’s podcast episode on Constitution DAO, giving a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at this digital collective who bid on a rare copy of the US Constitution. My guest, Caitlin Long, was a member of this collective and mentioned it in the interview - this is a must listen!

  • CityDAO is “building a DAO governed Crypto City” starting with a 40 acre parcel of land in unincorporated Clark WY. Each parcel is purchased as an NFT and is collectively owned by the “citizens” of the DAO.

A Japanese-American in Small Town WY: Episode 15
